Number of funds and capital raised by these funds in given year is a great predictor for venture activity in the subsequent period. 2021 and 2022 were anomalies where many new funds popped up, and existing ones oftentimes more than doubled their fund sizes. The committed capital got spent in 2023 and 2024, but 2025 pushed many funds back into the market to raise their successor funds.

In 2025, not only did we see the lowest number of funds and amount of capital raised by VCs, but also the longest duration to successfully complete a raise. The average fundraising process takes 19 months these days.
