Key Takeaways from 18 Expert Sessions & 35 Speakers
👋 Hi, I’m Andre and welcome to my newsletter Data-Driven VC which is all about becoming a better investor with Data & AI. Join 32,510 thought leaders from VCs like a16z, Accel, Index, Sequoia, and more to understand how startup investing becomes more data-driven, why it matters, and what it means for you.
Brought to you by Affinity – Early-stage Investing in the AI Era
Curious about the future of early-stage investing? Join us on April 3 to hear from Vanessa Larco, a former Partner at NEA, about what she’s learning as she embarks on a new fund. At a time when traditional due diligence approaches are being tested, Larco is rethinking how investors assess the deals in their pipeline—combining a deep understanding of first principles with a strategy that pushes new technologies to their limits.
Hi there!
One week after the Virtual DDVC Summit and we can still see hundreds of you watching the recordings. While we have extended the period to watch recordings via the event platform until tonight, you can join 150+ members in The Lab for unlimited access to recordings of the 2025 Summit, the 2024 Summit, all virtual roundtables, products, templates, AI agents, our community channels, get-togethers, and a lot more.
Be ensured that just the value of the Summit recordings is worth every penny and will save you tangible money & resources otherwise wasted via trial & error.
Different to many other conferences, the whole purpose of our DDVC Summit is to go super deep on specific topics like building a VC Copilot, compliant use of AI tools, hiring and growing tech teams in investment firms, and more.
To get the full value, we highly recommend (re)watching the recordings but…
… if you only have 3 minutes left, here’s the TL;DR of the Virtual DDVC Summit 2025 - Part 2/3
1. Beyond Intuition: How LPs Leverage Data & AI to Invest in GPs (with Equation Capital)
LPs are increasingly analyzing the *underlying portfolio companies* of GPs to benchmark fund performance, not just relying on reported metrics (TVPI, IRR).
Identifying truly comparable GPs requires deep analysis of investment strategies, sector focus, and portfolio composition. This is where technology adds significant value.
Relying solely on inbound deal flow from GPs limits access to the best opportunities. Data-driven approaches can identify promising emerging managers *before* they become oversubscribed.
The LP market is moving toward more transparency and accountability, creating demand for data-driven insights.
The LP data space is where the VC space was a number of years ago.
2. The Role of Product in VC (with 645 Ventures, Balderton, and ex-Greycroft)
Engineers participating in due diligence calls is becoming a key differentiator for tech-focused funds, providing immediate technical validation.
"Over-the-shoulder" sessions (engineers observing investor workflows) are more effective for initial training than formal customer interviews.
Successful product adoption requires proving a direct link to sourcing *and* investment decision quality, not just efficiency gains.
