From ChatGPT to CustomGPTs, co-pilots and agents
November 30, 2022 and the launch of ChatGPT will likely be remembered as the Cambrian Explosion of AI. Since then, the wave keeps growing and reaching every industry - including venture capital and startup land.
As I started playing with ChatGPT over the 2022 Christmas break, I decided to write my first article on “how to 10x your productivity with ChatGPT” in January 2023. Until today, this post got shared almost hundred times and made more than thousand of you 🤯 subscribe to DDVC, clearly indicating massive interest in the topic.
Many prompt experiments later, CustomGPTs got launched in November 2023 and after some fun explorations, I wrote “Top 10 Co-Pilots for VC Investors” and “Top 10 Co-Pilots for Founders & Operators” in December 2023.
Obviously, one year in AI la-la-land later, it feels like a decade has passed, so I thought it’s peak time to review the list and share the 2025 update on the most exciting AI co-pilots. Or should I say “agents”? ;)
Difference between co-pilots and agents
The terms "agents" and "copilots" can sometimes be used interchangeably, but they often refer to slightly different concepts depending on the context:
AI Agents: This term is broader and can encompass any autonomous or semi-autonomous system that acts on behalf of a user or another system. AI agents are programmed to make decisions or perform actions to achieve specific goals. These can be chatbots, virtual assistants, or more complex decision-making systems in various industries.
AI Copilots: Specifically within software and development, "copilots" (popularized by tools like GitHub Copilot) refer to AI systems designed to assist users in more specific tasks, like coding. These systems use contextual understanding to suggest code, corrections, or optimizations. They work alongside the human user, enhancing their productivity rather than operating independently.
