We made it! Earlier this week, we hosted our first “The Future of VC” Investor Summit in Munich and I’m still overwhelmed by your incredibly positive feedback!

It was amazing to meet so many of you in-person and I’d like to thank our 1,500 participants as much as our 25 world class speakers from GPs like Accel, Atomico, Creandum, Eurazeo, Gradient, Index, KKR, and Lighspeed; LPs like Equation, kfw, Moonfare, and Nico Rossberg; CVCs like Deutsche Bank, Telus, and Axel Springer; and our German Minister of Finance Christian Lindner.

It was Data-Driven VC’s first physical event and the best decision to partner with Felix Hass and his exceptional team. Embedding our “The Future of VC” Investor Summit into the broader Bits & Pretzels founder festival, I hope that we made it worth your visit in Munich 🥨 THANK YOU 🍻

One speaker I was particularly excited to have on stage is Henrik Landgren. He was not only an early data wizard at Spotify, but also one of the masterminds behind EQT’s Motherbrain - until he switched sides about 3 years ago to found Gilion and create a new form of growth funding driven by data and AI.

Following our insightful panel discussion earlier this week, I’m happy to have Henrik share a deep dive on his thinking about what’s next on the VC agenda after AI in a guest article below.

Learnings From a Decade of Data Innovation

As someone who has spent the last decade blending data science with venture capital, I’ve seen firsthand how technology, particularly AI and data, has transformed the investment landscape.

My own journey started at Spotify, where I put together the first Analytics team to track clicks, events, and every data point imaginable. It wasn’t just about crunching data; it was about understanding granular user behaviors and how we could use it to continuously guide our product decisions and growth strategies.

Then, I took this data-driven approach with me when I joined the mission to build EQT Ventures. A new data driven VC fund, which has now become one of Europe’s leading VCs.

At EQT, I realized that the same principles that applied to user behavior and how large datasets can be used to make significantly better decisions at Spotify could and will be transferred to many more industries and venture capital specifically. Armed with this insight, we grew a team and built Motherbrain, an AI-driven platform designed to capture as much data we could about companies out there, and then help us identify and evaluate them with a level of precision and efficiency that traditional VC approaches couldn’t match.

Motherbrain quickly started to process hundreds of millions of data points that we could use to identify patterns and model out the future. It helped us to spot trends, risks, and monitor opportunities—allowing us to focus our human intuition on the most interesting companies.
